Recycled shipping containers formed the basis of a new Aurtenetxea activity introduced in this June 2014 archive entry. Aurtenetxea Containers was presented as a subsidiary of Aurtenetxea S.A., a machinery and tools supplier operating since 1963.
Recycled shipping containers with new uses
In collaboration with Zabala Arquitectos, the company introduced an adaptable unit built from reused shipping containers. The original announcement proposed uses including homes, garden guest houses, campsite bungalows, weekend retreats, offices, exhibition stands, showrooms and pop-up shops.
The concept responded to an interest in reusing materials and reducing costs. This historical introduction records the range of uses proposed at the time.
