Baluarte 1,2,3,4,5 transformed five shipping containers into a sculpture at Bilbao Maritime Museum. Alberto Díez and Leo Burge, fourth-year Fine Arts students at UPV/EHU, created the work.
Baluarte: a different arrangement of five containers
The artists departed from the conventional, orderly arrangement of containers to create an unexpected encounter with people passing through the museum’s outdoor spaces. Their approach connected the familiar objects with the surprising forms of play.
The initiative came from Aurtenetxea Containers, with Zabala Arquitectos, Bilbao Maritime Museum and the university’s Faculty of Fine Arts. Students were invited to propose artistic interventions using the containers.
The sculpture was intended to remain on the museum quays until September, alongside museum collection pieces and works by Jesús Lizaso and Pedro Txillida.
