A blood donation campaign in Bilbao’s Arriaga Square brought together Alzola Basque Water, the Blood Donors’ Association, Athletic Club and Aurtenetxea Containers in May 2015. The campaign sought new donors in Bizkaia and ran until 24 May that year.
A blood donation campaign inspired by football teams
The organisers used Athletic’s “23+1 cups” as the campaign’s theme. Their aim was to form at least 24 teams of 11 new blood donors. People associated with Athletic Club were to make up the first team, representing the 1902 cup.
The original campaign announcement linked the 1902 Coronation Cup, held in honour of Alfonso XIII, to Alzola’s history. It recounted a connection through Luis Coloma, author of the Ratoncito Pérez story, and a mouse at the Alzola spa.
The organisers invited people to take part in the initiative and share it with those around them. This historical entry preserves the campaign photographs; the dates and invitation refer to May 2015.
